The Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a smartphone that as officially announced by Sony Ericsson – one of the world leaders in smartphone manufacturing – on 21st January 2010. It was released shortly after on 5th March 2010 after much speculation as to its final features and specifications. Upon its release, it was met with much acclaim, and became available in a diverse range of colour schemes, including Moon Silver, Cosmic Black, Galaxy Blue, and Venus Ruby. The handset itself is relatively compact, and comes across as being sharp and sleek. It’s focus is spread mainly across the multiple functions and features it boasts, and Sony Ericsson have made major developments in the fields of photography, HD video recording, music playback, and Internet connectivity. In terms of the camera – which is of a very high quality (even being able to record in high definition, as mentioned) is located to the rear of the handset, and sits alongside an LED flashlight that can be used for both lighting enhancement for the picture taking, but also simply as a flashlight. The camera isn’t covered by any sort of bulky slider, therefore it’s tucked away nicely. On one side of the phone lies most of the functionality controls. There’s four buttons in total, one of which controls the camera features, another that controls the video recording (start/stop etc), another of which takes pictures (as long as the camera has been activated onscreen), and another that either zooms in/out, or controls volume levels (again, depending on what has been activated by the user). On the other side of the Vivaz lies a Micro-B USB slot that can be used both for charging the phone, and for connecting to a computer (possibly for uploading/downloading multimedia, such as ringtones, images, and video). In terms of software, the Vivaz comes equipped with the Symbian operating system and also benefits from using the PlayNow service, which is Sony Ericsson’s mobile content platform. Developments have been made since the last Sony Ericsson smartphone in terms of the addition of WiFi and Bluetooth technology which are both available on the Vivaz.
